Taxi Driver Struck by Car Theft Near Chita Police Station; Suspects Apprehended
An agitated taxi driver reported to the Chita city police that his vehicle, a taxi, had been stolen while he was on duty. He described two young men approaching him, forcibly ejecting him from the car and threatening him with a knife before taking off with the vehicle.
The incident occurred not far from the local internal affairs department where the driver was working. Police promptly activated the interception plan, focusing on rapid coordination and decisive action. Within roughly 20 minutes, officers from the police and the National Guard, working in tandem, located the car a few blocks away.
The recovered vehicle lay in a ditch, with the suspects still inside. Investigators identified the offenders as two residents with prior convictions from the Trans-Baikal region, born in 2006 and 1995. It was a stark reminder of how quickly violent crime can unfold and how fast a coordinated response can restore safety in a city setting.
Authorities opened a criminal case under Part 4 of Article 166 of the Penal Code. The younger suspect was detained under the grounds listed in Article 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, while the older accomplice was taken into custody for questioning and further proceedings. The swift intervention by law enforcement is being cited as a model of inter-agency cooperation in handling urgent threats to public safety.
