Tarzan Car in Samara: A Restored Classic Built on a Hybrid Frame
A distinctive Tarzan-styled vehicle was offered for sale in Samara. The exterior and body lines originate from a VAZ-2109 chassis, with some models using the VAZ-2111 body as an alternative. The drive system and all central chassis elements were adapted from a Lada Niva, yet the vehicle was mounted on its own original frame.
Today, genuine, fully operational surviving examples are scarce. Many cars of this type were converted into specialized harvesting equipment and, over time, have worn out their mechanical resources. The Samara variant, however, remains a rare and fascinating specimen for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
According to the seller, the body has undergone a complete restoration. The seams were welded, anti-corrosion treatment applied, and the surface finished with a protective coating similar to Raptor. A new frame was fitted, as there is a well-documented margin in frame production, along with new doors and windows. A long list of components was replaced or overhauled to restore the car’s original feel and function. Inside, the cabin was rebuilt to match the Samara-2 standard, and several essential systems received modern upgrades:
- Heating and climate controls
- New battery and alternator
- Wiring harness and electrical system refresh
- Power steering pump and associated components
- Cardan joints and drive shafts
- Rear axle locks and transfer case assemblies
- Clutch kit and flywheel
- Brake calipers and rear pads
According to the description, the engine shows no complaints. New seals and gaskets were installed, and the transmission received a complete overhaul. The car reportedly began life as a project and was rebuilt from the ground up. After the renovation, it reportedly accumulated around 30,000 kilometers while maintaining a fresh, well-preserved appearance. The asking price is 580,000 rubles, a figure that positions the vehicle within a niche community of restored, hybrid-configured classics in the region.
Video footage related to the build and ownership experience has been made available by the outlet Behind the Wheel on RuTube, offering potential buyers a closer look at the restoration work and the driving feel of the vehicle.
