A traffic incident in St. Petersburg involved a 19-year-old driver and a BMW colliding with police officers, followed by a rapid exchange of gunfire. Reports from the public page Road Inspector on the social network Vkontakte indicate these events were captured and shared widely.
According to the account, on the night of February 26, law enforcement officers attempted to halt the BMW on Kosygin Boulevard. The driver did not comply with the stop command and continued to drive. Investigators tracked the car and eventually brought it to a stop at the ring road near the junction with the Murmansk highway. When officers attempted to extract the suspect from the vehicle, he accelerated and struck members of the police team.
The pursuit resumed, culminating in police opening fire with thirty-six rounds at the vehicle and disabling the tires. The young driver was subsequently detained. Later information indicated that the car had been rented at the time of the incident.
Administrative protocols were issued against the detainee for disobeying police orders, leaving the scene of the incident, and for the improper handling of a vehicle.
