The automobile plants operated by Hyundai, Toyota, and Nissan in St. Petersburg are slated to restart their conveyor lines at the end of March. This information comes from Kirill Soloveychik, head of the city committee on industrial policy, innovation and trade, as reported by Business Petersburg. Soloveychik indicated that the restart could allow the entire production network to get back to pace, noting that one of the plants is already back in operation.

Previously, the conveyors at all three plants were halted in late February due to a sharp shortage of components. The Ukrainian conflict added strain to an already strained semiconductor supply chain. At Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus, a planned return to full production on March 9 did not materialize, according to sources familiar with the situation.

By March 22, data showed that Renault Moscow had resumed operations, but the plant halted again two days later after Renault announced an overall suspension of activities in Russia. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with AvtoVAZ, which has substantial French ownership, pledged to explore joint solutions to the challenges facing the sector.

  • The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, stated on March 22 that car brands which paused Russian manufacturing in early April must make a clear decision about whether to remain in the Russian market or exit.
