When a car becomes stuck in deep snow, the driver should avoid aggressive spinning of the wheels. Doing so often worsens the trap and makes the vehicle harder to free. This is the viewpoint of Vadim Strelbitsky, who heads the mechanical repair department at Avilon Kia, as reported by a major Russian publication.

Strelbitsky emphasizes that the more effort is spent trying to break free, the deeper the car can sink. The first practical step is to increase the contact area between the tires and the ground. This can be done by placing an object under the wheel that is on the edge of the snowbank. Useful improvised materials can include branches, planks, or any sturdy items found nearby that can help distribute weight and improve traction.

Another approach is to use a jack to position a firm base beneath the wheel, provided it is safe to do so. The expert also notes that keeping a set of essential tools in the car is crucial. Shovels, tow cables, a compact jack, anti skid devices, and traction tapes are practical items that can accelerate the process of freeing the vehicle from a snowbank during winter driving.

Recent weather conditions outside Moscow created significant travel disruptions. On November 27, a heavy snowstorm reduced roadway capacity and affected traffic flow. The city’s transport authority advised residents to limit travel by private car and to use public transit where possible, urging caution for those who must venture out by road.

In the broader context, certain vehicle types may have higher accident risk in snowy conditions. Among these are cars that lack adequate winter equipment or drivers who underestimate the need for extra preparation and slow, deliberate responses when snow accumulates on roads.
