Togliatti State University and SPbPU Collaborate on a Ser jeant Modular Electric Vehicle
Togliatti State University (TSU) and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) are planning a joint effort to develop a sergeant electroframe modular electric vehicle that features a fully welded aluminum chassis. The collaboration also envisions adapting this frame for integration with the Niva car kit, in partnership with AvtoVAZ.
The historical line of thought traces back to the Bora SUV, a project conceived at the Volga Automobile Plant in the 1990s. A photo released by a source hints at the logical continuation of the Bora concept in the Sergeant project. Although the original Bora and its derivative designs did not reach serial production, the renewed initiative aims to align with contemporary automotive trends and industry needs.
The envisioned electro sergeant would include a 2.35 kW battery pack developed at SPbPU. The university has also contributed to energy infrastructure by developing a charging station equipped with a buffer battery, enabling rapid charging of an electric vehicle even when primary power resources are limited. On the manufacturing side, TSU will coordinate the pilot production of the welded aluminum frame and oversee the procurement of the necessary materials for its fabrication.
In a coordinated effort, the partners intend to move the project from concept to a functional running model, with a view toward eventual production in the broader automotive sector.
Supply and Infrastructure Needs
The project highlights the practical requirement for approximately 7,000 tires in widely available sizes. This is framed within the broader context of public safety and service readiness. Reliable access to tires is presented as essential for maintaining the mobility of fleets that serve public order, medical services, and emergency response teams.
An associated fundraising initiative led by a civic collaboration aims to raise funds for tires to support vehicles used by the People’s Police and operational services within the LPR and DPR. The funds will also support ambulances, emergency response vehicles, humanitarian aid transports to residents in Donbass, and military equipment logistics. Contributions can be made via a collection page dedicated to this effort.
