From November 1 to November 27, the national project Safe High-Quality Roads supported the All-Russian Online Olympiad “Safe Roads,” conducted on the Uchi.ru educational platform.

Now in its third year, the Olympiad continues to grow in popularity with each season.

Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, states:

— Reducing road accidents is a key objective within the national initiative for a comfortable and safe living environment. The safety of children is a top priority. That is why the Safe Roads Olympiad, designed to deepen students’ understanding of road safety measures, has received strong participation from both children and parents.

In 2022, more than 4.458 million students in grades 1–9 across the country took part in the online Olympiad, surpassing the previous year by 700 thousand participants.

The Olympiad’s tasks cover traffic rules for both pedestrians and drivers. In 2022, they also included topics on individual mobility devices such as scooters and gyro scooters, which continue to gain popularity year after year.

Organizers consistently analyze Olympiad participation data to identify the areas where students face the greatest challenges. Last year’s most difficult sections focused on rules for movement in the yard and on bicycles, leading to the addition of new tasks and the development of targeted training exercises for these topics.

Oleg Ponaryin, Major General of Police and Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Road Safety at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, notes:

— Protecting the life and health of children in traffic remains a top priority for the National Traffic Inspectorate. Supporting projects that prevent accidents involving this group is essential. The Olympiad’s online format is its defining advantage, expanding the geographic reach of participants while teaching foundational road safety in a non-intrusive manner.

He adds that teachers and parents played an active role in helping children prepare, complementing the primary audience of minors. Targeted traffic education is a crucial step toward reducing road fatalities to near zero.

Care and knowledge reduce risks

Children attend schools, extracurricular activities, and community centers regularly, and it is the responsibility of specialists to make these routes safer. Since the national High-Quality Safe Roads initiative began, more than 3,000 road segments leading to educational institutions across regions have been repaired. Road workers have upgraded pedestrian crossings, modernized traffic signals, and installed protective fencing near schools, kindergartens, and cultural centers. When children know and follow traffic rules, the likelihood of dangerous situations decreases significantly.

The Olympiad was organized by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and ANO National Priorities.
