In October 2023, the Russian market saw 489.1 thousand used passenger cars change hands, marking an 11.9% rise from October of the previous year, according to analytical agency Avtostat.
Among models in the secondary market during mid-autumn, the LADA 2114 Samara 2 hatchback led with a market volume of 10.5 thousand units. The Ford Focus was close behind at 10.2 thousand, placing it second. Following closely were the Kia Rio with 9.3 thousand units and the Hyundai Solaris with 9.1 thousand, while the Lada 2107 sedan ranked fifth with 9.1 thousand units, rounding out the top positions.
Across the first ten months of 2023, Russians purchased 4.8 million used cars, a 22.3% increase compared with the same period in 2022.
Industry observers note that the Russian automotive sector had begun a gradual recovery. A former official from the Ministry of Industry and Trade indicated that the market could reach roughly 1.3 million sales in 2024. Projections from the ministry suggested that sales volumes in 2026 would align with the average annual level seen from 2015 to 2021. The consensus points to a steady rise of about 1% per year starting in 2027. Under this trajectory, the market could approach 1.8 million cars sold annually by 2030 and about 1.9 million by 2035.
Earlier analyses also indicated the potential for record highs in second-hand car sales within Russia, underscoring strong demand and ongoing market adjustment.
