The Russian passenger car market posted a revenue total of 299 billion rubles in September 2023, slipping slightly from 304 billion rubles the previous month, according to Autostat Information. The month-over-month shift reflects ongoing dynamics in consumer demand, seasonal purchasing patterns, and shifting model mix as households respond to price signals and overall economic conditions.

Lada Granta continued to anchor market revenue in September and dominated the year-to-date figures through the third quarter. In September alone, buyers spent about 17 billion rubles on this model, contributing to 9-month revenues of 113.7 billion rubles. The model’s persistent appeal underscores its price positioning, perceived value, and strong residual appeal among a broad spectrum of buyers across Russia’s regions.

Trailing in revenue for September was the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro crossover, which generated roughly 15.5 billion rubles in September and accumulated 105 billion rubles in revenue over the first three quarters of 2023. The Tiggo 7 Pro’s performance highlights the growing strength of crossover utility vehicles in the Russian market, where consumers increasingly favor versatile, higher-riding models with modern feature sets and competitive total ownership costs.

Geely Monjaro claimed third place in September revenue with about 12.8 billion rubles, reflecting its solid reception in recent months. Looking at the nine-month results for 2023, Haval Jolion registered 74.6 billion rubles in revenue, positioning it among the top performers in the broader market. The January-to-September total revenue across the Russian passenger car segment reached 1.88 trillion rubles, a significant rise from 1.07 trillion rubles in the prior year period, indicating a notable expansion in sales activity and consumer spending power amid evolving macroeconomic conditions.

There were also development notes for regional manufacturing strategy. In Kaliningrad, plans were announced to establish production of Jetour vehicles, signaling potential shifts in local supply chains and the broader domestic auto industry landscape as manufacturers pursue geographic diversification and export-oriented capabilities.
