Strategic plans to expand Russia’s automotive market and supply chain
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, outlined a bold objective: raise the share of Russian cars in the domestic market from 40 percent to 80 percent by 2030. The plan centers on expanding state support, including subsidies and incentives for the production of car parts, to strengthen national manufacturing capacity and reduce reliance on imports.
Manturov emphasized that targeted state aid could double overall vehicle production and triple the output of automotive components. Strategically, Manturov called for a focus on next generation technologies. The plan envisions leveraging hybrids and electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell technologies, and transportation autonomy as the pillars of future mobility. There is also consideration of introducing vehicles powered by natural gas, reflecting a diversified approach to powertrains to match evolving market and environmental priorities.
