By the end of November, Russia had sold 46.4 thousand new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. This figure shows a substantial drop from November 2021, arriving at 61.6 percent fewer units. The Automotive Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses in Russia (AEB) reported these results, helping to illustrate the market’s current trajectory [AEB].

For the first eleven months of the year, sales in Russia remained under 549 thousand vehicles, marking a decline of nearly 61 percent year over year. In November alone, AvtoVAZ continued to lead in overall car sales with about 21.7 thousand units, down 18 percent versus November 2021. Across the January–November period, Lada’s total deliveries dropped by 49 percent compared with the same stretch last year, totaling around 164.6 thousand vehicles [AEB].

In the November data, a few brands stood out in the ranking of popular models and manufacturers. Chinese automaker China Aoyun sold just under 4.6 thousand vehicles in the month, securing the second spot in the market ranking. GAZ followed with roughly 4.2 thousand light commercial vehicles. Geely registered about 3.5 thousand units, while UAZ posted just under 3.5 thousand vehicles. A notable player, Bir Kia, contributed around 3.1 thousand cars per month to the overall mix [AEB].

Overall, the market trend for late 2022 shows a continued strengthening of the contraction compared to October, with November maintaining a similar pattern of reduced demand. Industry observers attribute the slowdown to a combination of macroeconomic pressures, shifts in consumer purchasing power, and supply chain disruptions that have persisted into the late-year period. Analysts emphasize that the dynamics in the Russian automotive sector still reflect broader regional economic conditions, including currency fluctuations and import restrictions that affect affordable vehicle options for many buyers [AEB].
