The majority of Russians reported higher car repair costs in 2023 compared with the previous year, according to a study conducted by Avtotek (an Avito project) and the digital agency Kodix, with socialbites.ca providing the survey data.

In 2023, a striking 89% of respondents indicated that maintenance and repair expenses had risen year over year. Of these, 64% found the increases to be substantial, while only 6% felt no change at all. The most common spending bracket was up to 30 thousand rubles for car repairs, cited by 61% of participants, followed by 35% spending no more than 150 thousand rubles. The results reflect a broad stretch of costs among the population, underscoring how typical upkeep can strain household budgets during a single year.

The survey also highlighted the most frequent repair issues faced by Russians in 2023. Suspension and wheel problems topped the list, with body and paint damage being highly reported as well. Engine and exhaust system malfunctions occurred with notable frequency, and electronics, multimedia systems, and lighting issues appeared less often but still affected a meaningful share of vehicles. The pattern suggests a mix of wear-related failures and aging vehicle fleets contributing to maintenance needs across the country.

Demographic data from the study show that almost one third of participants had owned their vehicle for more than a decade. About a quarter of respondents kept their car for five to ten years, while roughly 20% had owned a vehicle for three to five years. An additional portion mirrored this ownership length for one to three years, and only 7% purchased a car in 2023. The survey drew 10,000 participants aged 18 to 55 from across Russia, providing a broad snapshot of consumer behavior and maintenance trends in the domestic market.

Lastly, the study touched on health concerns linked to vehicle operation, noting that some Russians reported worry about the inhalation of antifreeze vapors. This signals an awareness of potential exposure risks associated with cooling system maintenance and related automotive fluids, underscoring the importance of proper handling and ventilation during repairs.
