Russia’s 2022 Crossover and SUV Leaders: Who Dominated the Market

In the Russian automotive market for 2022, the Lada Niva claimed the top spot among crossovers and SUVs. A total of 38,780 owners purchased AVTOVAZ products, though the year saw a decline of 12,462 units compared with 2021. The data highlights a shift in consumer preferences and the competitive dynamics shaping the domestic segment.

Trailing closely behind, the Haval Jolion posted a notable rise in popularity, securing the second position in the Top 10 with 17,112 crossovers sold over the year. This figure marks an increase of 7,235 units from the prior year, underscoring growing demand for this model in the Russian market.

The bronze medal went to the Hyundai Creta, with 16,577 units sold in 2022. This represented a substantial drop of 51,504 from the previous year, reflecting broader market adjustments and the challenging environment that affected several competitors in the segment.

Fourth place in sales went to the Renault Duster, which moved 12,235 units in the year, a decrease of 29,236 compared with 2021. Following this, the Geely Coolray recorded 11,692 registrations, showing a modest gain of 591 compared with the prior period. The UAZ Patriot was chosen by 10,612 buyers, down by 2,445 from 2021 totals.

Rounding out the top ten were the Kia Seltos with 9,028 copies, the Kia Sportage at 8,311 copies, and the Toyota RAV4 with 8,005 copies, illustrating a diverse mix of domestic, Asian, and European offerings in the segment.
