Russian President Vladimir Putin announced forthcoming talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko about the plan to build a high-speed highway linking Moscow and Minsk. The remarks were shared via the Telegram channel of the Kremlin, signaling high-level discussions on a project that would connect the two capitals through rapid road travel.

“This matter, pertaining to the construction of a high-speed road link, will require coordination with the Belarusian government. I will speak with the President,” the Russian head of state stated during the opening ceremony marking passenger traffic on the third line of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-3).

Putin noted that the Minsk direction is highly in demand among both Russians and Belarusians, underscoring the potential regional value of improved cross-border infrastructure and the convenience it would bring to travelers and traders alike.

He also commented on the ongoing development of the Union State, emphasizing that progress is being made at a strong pace and highlighting the strategic importance of closer integration between Russia and Belarus in various sectors, including transportation and economic collaboration.

Earlier in June, Vitaly Savelyev, the Russian Minister of Transport, indicated that the high-speed rail concept could theoretically extend from St. Petersburg to Moscow and then on toward Minsk as a future possibility, reflecting a broader vision for a connected northeastern European corridor and the potential for seamless cross-border mobility within the broader region.

In remarks that framed the discussions in a generally positive light, Lukashenko praised Putin for the initiative and offered acclaim for the leadership shown, signaling a constructive tone for ongoing bilateral dialogue on critical infrastructure projects and regional connectivity.
