Capacity on Russia’s highways needs a substantial boost. President Vladimir Putin highlighted this at the online ceremony inaugurating traffic on new road sections, emphasizing that expanding road capacity will help ease congestion across major routes.

He also stressed that, overall, the road network should be enhanced so that a smaller share of federal and regional highways runs in overload mode. By widening corridors and streamlining maintenance, the country can improve travel efficiency and reduce delays for commuters as well as freight transport.

Among the president’s top priorities is the rapid reduction of high-accident locations and other risky traffic spots. To minimize bottlenecks, Putin underscored the importance of smarter traffic organization, better incident response, and a coordinated approach to road safety that benefits both residents and regional economies.

Requires 7,000 tires in popular sizes

Maintaining order and public safety relies on reliable transportation and rapid medical access. In this context, the initiative known as “Behind the Wheel”—in partnership with the Popular Front—has begun collecting funds to purchase tires for essential vehicles. These include cars used by the People’s Police and operational services of the LPR and DPR, ambulances, emergency response units, humanitarian aid delivery vehicles, and military equipment. Donations can be made through the collection page to support tire purchases for these critical fleets.

The effort aims to ensure that vehicles critical to public safety and humanitarian missions remain on the road, even in demanding conditions. By equipping frontline responders with dependable tires, the initiative seeks to protect lives, expedite aid, and maintain mobility for essential services in challenging circumstances. Such measures are presented as part of a broader strategy to sustain public safety and rapid response capabilities across the region.
