Automotive Service Constraints in Russia Amid VW Exit
Volkswagen limited access to service programs at authorized stations and official dealers within Russia. This move affected the continuity of maintenance and support for many owners, leaving service networks to rethink their approach and ensure customers still have options for essential upkeep.
According to Alexander Pakhomov, chairman of the board of directors of the Russian Union of Auto Services, regional dealers are now formulating a coordinated plan to prevent gaps in customer support. The industry is mobilizing to preserve continuity of care for vehicles that require routine service, diagnostics, and parts supply during this transitional period.
“Everyone is seeking a practical solution. For instance, Volkswagen dealers are collaborating, exchanging data and necessary information to keep service information accessible to technicians and customers,” said Pakhomov. The emphasis is on mutual aid, data sharing, and maintaining the ability to diagnose and repair vehicles despite the changes in channel access.
Earlier, Volkswagen announced the termination of its activities in Russia in March of last year. Since then, the company has been exploring options for a potential buyer for its Kaluga plant, signaling a broader shift in the region’s automotive manufacturing landscape.
