In Perm, a 20-year-old local resident faces trial after allegedly stealing an asphalt compactor and damaging it by crashing into a pole, according to the Perm Region Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to investigators, the incident occurred in the early hours of a July morning when the young man left a bar and joined a group of peers. While walking along Sibirskaya Street, they spotted a road skating rink with the paver doors open. Inside, the accused reportedly located the keys to the special equipment and chose to take a ride without informing the others. The act began as a reckless theft and quickly evolved into a dangerous excursion with a vehicle not intended for casual use.
After passing a traffic light, the driver reportedly lost control, veered toward the curb, and the vehicle crashed into a stationary pole at the rink. The impact shattered side windows and caused visible damage to the equipment. Authorities detained the young man the same day, and the estimated damage to the owner exceeded 5 million rubles. The case was forwarded to investigators as a violation of part 1 of article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, described as an unjustified seizure of a vehicle without a theft motive, along with paragraph c of part 2 of article 158, which addresses theft.
Further information released later indicates that in February, the same individual allegedly stole a package belonging to an elderly relative, including 18 thousand rubles, a hearing aid, and discount cards. The stolen funds were reportedly used to purchase a mobile phone along with clothing items such as football gear, shorts, and a T-shirt. The sequence of events has prompted authorities to consider multiple charges and to evaluate the full impact of the actions on the victims involved.
Earlier reports from Yakutia noted a separate incident in which a driver offered an apology after a confrontation with a traffic police inspector, underscoring a broader pattern of disputes involving roadway authorities. The Perm case remains under investigation as prosecutors prepare formal charges and determine the appropriate penalties based on the evidence gathered, the circumstances surrounding the theft, and the extent of the damage to the equipment owner.
