Optics Evolution in Eastern European Bus Fleets: Hella Replacement and New LED Prototypes

A notable shift has taken place in the lighting assemblies used on PAZ-3205/4234 buses. After a 2014 restyling, specific Hella modules from Romania were installed, delivering a certain level of performance. As original supply chains evolved and those components ceased being produced, operators turned back to a seven-inch optic that had previously adorned these models, reintroducing it to maintain compatibility and lighting performance on the road.

In response to supply constraints, a Belarusian manufacturer, AMKODOR, has developed a modern alternative to the Hella-based optics. This new unit is designed to function as a drop-in substitute, reducing reliance on external shipments while preserving lighting quality and reliability for bus fleets and related transport equipment.

Not resting on its laurels, the developers introduced a prototype LED optic that matches the same seven-inch format. According to the manufacturer, the device combines practical functionality with robust technical specifications and efficient illumination results, aiming to deliver superior visibility under varied driving conditions.

The LED headlamp is slated for inclusion across several vehicle programs and facilities, with potential applications in MAZ, MTZ, MZKT, LiAZ, PAZ and UAZ production lines. In addition, St. Petersburg and Bryansk tractor plants are listed among the expected beneficiaries, signaling a broader roll-out across major industrial sites and fleets that require dependable lighting solutions.

Overall, the industry trajectory points to an emphasis on modular, scalable LED lighting that can be adapted to existing seven-inch optic footprints. The goal is to ensure consistent illumination, easy integration with current electrical systems, and ongoing availability of spare parts and components across key markets in North America and beyond.
