A recent survey conducted by experts from the Avtostat agency reveals a clear pattern in how Russians buy and sell cars online. In this study, more than 3,200 car owners participated to provide a snapshot of current preferences across the market. The results were shared as percentages, painting a vivid picture of which platforms are most trusted and widely used for vehicle transactions in Russia today.

The findings show Avito.Avto leading the field with a decisive 56.6 percent of respondents naming it as the platform they would most likely use to sell a car. This leadership is notably strong when contrasted with other major platforms, whose shares are more modest. Auto.ru and Drom.ru occupy the next two spots in the rankings, attracting 21.2 percent and 20.1 percent of the respondents, respectively. These figures underscore how dominant Avito.Avto has become in the market for private car sales and highlight the competitive landscape among online car marketplaces in Russia.

The survey also allowed a city-by-city assessment, offering insights into regional dynamics. When the data is broken down by location, Moscow and St. Petersburg largely mirror the national trend, with Avito.Avto maintaining a strong lead. In the capital, about half of the participants, 50 percent, indicated Avito.Avto as their preferred platform, while in St. Petersburg the share rises to 60.6 percent, underscoring a consistently high level of trust in Avito.Avto across major cities.

These consumer patterns align closely with seller perspectives. Despite small percentage differences, the overall picture remains consistent: AvitoAvto is frequently the starting point for buyers looking to purchase a car online. In this survey, 44.7 percent of respondents who were in the market to buy indicated they would browse Avito.Avto first. Auto.ru attracted 25.5 percent of buyers, and Drom.ru drew 14.9 percent, illustrating a strong but comparatively narrower footprint for these platforms among active buyers.

  • The study highlighted reliability and security as the most important criteria when selecting an online service for vehicle transactions.
  • Information about the platform can be accessed via messaging channels, including a dedicated channel on Viber labeled Driving.
