The fourth generation of the Nissan X-Trail has been unveiled in Japan, marking a new chapter for the crossover. While a global rollout seems likely and there is chatter about a future arrival in Russia, the initial announcement confirms a July 25 launch date for Japanese dealerships.

The official release stays tight on details, but it is clear that the model will feature Nissan’s VC-Turbo engine, the world’s first variable compression ratio powerplant. This 2.0-liter turbo four has powered the Infiniti QX50 since 2018, delivering about 268 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque.

Beyond outright performance, Nissan positions the X-Trail as a pivotal step in its electrification strategy. The turbo engine is intended to support the car’s electric generator role within the e-POWER system, delivering a driving experience with strong performance and refined quietness while balancing fuel efficiency.

New all-wheel drive variants come equipped with the refreshed e-4ORCE system, a synthesis of all-wheel drive and advanced vehicle dynamics control. The expectation is that this combination will translate into engaging handling and confident on-road behavior.

Safety is bolstered by a comprehensive package that includes adaptive headlights and the Safety Assist 360 system, which uses cameras, radar, and sonar to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and enable proactive safety measures. The ProPilot driver assistance suite expands with Navi Link, speed limit recognition, cornering braking support, and automated parking features.

When it comes to comfort and technology, the X-Trail offers a modern interior with a 10.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch multimedia and navigation display with voice control. A Bose Premium Sound System enhances in-cabin audio, and the cargo area is described as class-leading. A flexible autonomous power site provides up to 1.5 kW of energy for connected devices or camping needs.

In the Japanese market, front-wheel drive variants will be offered in three trim levels starting at 3.2 million yen, roughly 1.3 million rubles. All-wheel drive is available from 3.5 million yen, about 1.4 million rubles, with one configuration featuring a three-row seating layout.

  • In Russia, the X-Trail is primarily associated with the previous generation, which was assembled at the Nissan plant in Saint Petersburg. The latest production outlook suggests a potential restart at the plant as early as September.
  • Legitimate driving impressions and tests are now available for viewing on RuTube, according to official communications.
