A fatal crash in Blagoveshchensk, which injured nine pedestrians, involved a driver linked to the police. This detail emerged in reports shared by the Mash Telegram channel.
According to Mash, a 59-year-old man named Evgeny Bakaryukin, who allegedly drove into a crowd in Blagoveshchensk, had been employed as a police officer in the Romnensky district of the Amur region until 2005. After leaving the force, he started his own business and operated minibuses as a private transport entrepreneur.
Family members described Bakaryukin as someone who did not drink alcohol. He was taken for medical testing after the incident, according to official statements reported by Mash.
Earlier online footage circulated showing the minivan driver seated on the grass, visibly injured and unable to explain what happened. Bystanders near him expressed anger, with some alleging that alcohol was involved. The driver was detained by police in a relatively short time after the event.
In total, five people were reported as victims, including children. Four others sustained injuries, with several in serious condition. Community members and authorities began a search for answers about the sequence of events and the factors contributing to the crash.
The public awaits information on what charge or punishment the driver will face as the investigation unfolds, with authorities outlining ongoing procedural steps and potential legal consequences as the case proceeds.
