New Digital Tool for Driver’s License Verification and Integration with the Unified State Services Portal
A new resource for verifying issued driver’s licenses is in development, in collaboration with the Russian Ministry of Digital Development. The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as reported to TASS, confirmed this ongoing project. The goal is to create a system that can link information about issued driving licenses to a citizen’s digital profile on the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services through the traffic police data mart. This move signals a broader shift toward digitizing identity verification and driving credential processes across government services.
In a related development, banks had previously approached the Ministry of Interior with a request to finalize an automatic driver’s license number checking service. They also sought to simplify confirming the authenticity of information within the Unified Identification and Authentication System. The intended outcomes include smoother access to credit, currency exchanges, money transfers without the necessity of opening a bank account, and a range of other financial services tied to driving credentials. These initiatives reflect a growing emphasis on streamlining financial transactions by leveraging verified identity data stored in government databases.

The digital profile of a citizen of the Russian Federation, known as the DPI, consolidates all data available to government agencies and state information systems about an individual. It also encompasses a set of technical means designed to manage this data primarily on behalf of the citizen. The DPI is intended to be a single, authoritative source of identity and personal data that can support service interactions across public and financial sectors. This concept underscores the move toward a more integrated approach to identity management in Russia, where government services and private sector entities increasingly rely on trusted digital records.
