Starting January 2, 2023, travel on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD) became a paid service. Since then, roughly 735,000 vehicles have used the highway under this paid regime. Each trip for transit transportation, regardless of vehicle category, costs 950 rubles.
At the same time, more than 99% of MSD traffic consists of cars owned by Muscovites and residents of the Moscow region, for whom travel remains free. Only transit vehicles from other regions are required to pay. The majority of visitors captured by MSD cameras, arriving from nearby areas, come from the Ryazan, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Tula, and St. Petersburg regions.
Nevertheless, there is a way for travelers from outside Moscow to avoid the charge. If a car spends more than one day within the Central Ring and at least two hours pass between entering the MSD and exiting it, the trip is not billed as transit travel.
