In the Russian car market, the Moskvich brand reappeared among the top ten players during the 11th week of 2024, covering the period from March 11 to March 17. This trend was highlighted by the analytical firm Avtostat, which tracks weekly sales dynamics across the country.
During the seven-day span, a total of 589 new Moskvich passenger cars were sold. The brand had last occupied a place in the top ten at the end of the eighth week, marking a notable return to momentum as market conditions shifted.
Analysts pointed to a correlation between the uptick in Moskvich sales and a recent sharp drop in vehicle prices. The most affordable model, the Moskvich 3, is now positioned at a recommended retail price of 1.59 million rubles. This price applies to the basic Standard configuration equipped with a 1.5 turbo engine, manual transmission, and front-wheel drive. The manufacturer’s official site confirms that the price applies to vehicles produced in 2023 and remains valid through the end of March 2024.
In industry news, KamAZ, the technological partner of Moskvich, had previously indicated that the Moskvich project would end the year with a loss estimated around 160 million rubles, a figure reflecting broader investments and market dynamics rather than a single quarterly outcome.
Meanwhile, dealers have begun offering the JAC J7 liftback at price points comparable to those seen in the Chinese market, signaling intensified competition and price positioning tactics within the segment.
