The Moscow traffic police summarized the outcomes of a weekend and holiday raid aimed at identifying drivers under the influence. The operation took place from February 22 to 26 and was announced via the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate’s telegraph channel. During this period, the police detained a total of 466 motorists who showed signs of intoxication. Of these, 72 were confirmed intoxicated by alcohol upon testing. Another 97 drivers exhibited indicators of drug intoxication. A further 297 drivers who were stopped declined medical examination due to suspected poisoning, leaving their exact condition undetermined at the scene.
Under the Code of Administrative Offenses, the violation carries penalties comparable to those for drunk driving. The prescribed consequence includes a fine of 30,000 rubles and a license suspension ranging from one and a half to two years. These measures reflect the authorities’ continued emphasis on road safety and the risks associated with driving under the influence, especially during periods of high traffic volume on weekends and holidays.
In a separate update, it was noted that January saw changes in the broader market, with the cost of purchasing new cars rising by 39 percent compared with January 2022. This trend highlights ongoing shifts in consumer prices and the automotive market while the city reinforces enforcement to deter impaired driving on public roads.
