In the Moscow area, a new project called Moscow High Speed Across (MSD) is planned to bring free travel for car owners within the city and its surroundings. The announcement was shared through a public channel by city officials, highlighting a shift in transportation policy aimed at managing traffic flow and reducing travel times.

The decision states that MSD will be free for residents of Moscow and the Moscow region. A toll is planned for public transport drivers starting January 1, 2023. The stated purpose is to protect major highways from additional vehicular load and to offer residents a faster, more predictable commute.

The MSD network is described as connecting several major routes, including Altufevskoye, Dmitrovskoye, Yaroslavskoye, Shchelkovskoye highways, Entuziastov highway, Volgogradsky and Ryazansky streets, Varshavskoye and Kashirskoye highways, the Moscow Ring Road, the Third Transport Ring, and other city arteries. The project envisions a broad corridor intended to streamline movement across the urban area.

Overview documents indicate that MSD encompasses a total length of about 217 kilometers of roads, featuring 136 structures built to support the elevated or bridging sections and 33 pedestrian crossings to maintain safe passage for pedestrians along the improved corridors. The core portion, known as the North-East Highway, is highlighted as the principal element of the program, with completion anticipated within the year 2023.

Officials describe the primary objective as creating a Moscow motorway capable of moving traffic through the city in roughly forty minutes without frequent stops, thereby offering a reliable time estimate for planning and daily routines.

Recent related updates note that a similar high-speed corridor has been opened in test mode in the Far East. This experimental project runs along Khaba r ovsk and links three federal routes, including Amur, Ussuri, and Vostok. The initiative aims to integrate regional traffic networks with major port access points such as Vostochny, Vladivostok, Nakhodka, Sovetskaya Gavan, and Vanino, illustrating a broader strategy to enhance cross-regional mobility and logistics capabilities across the country.
