The electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class is set to introduce a new capability that lets the vehicle rotate in place around a vertical axis. This impressive maneuver was showcased in Graz, Austria, by Ola Kallenius, the president of Mercedes-Benz. A video of the electric G-Class in action was released on the official Mercedes-Benz YouTube channel, highlighting the feature called G-Turn.

According to Källenius, this ability can be used on surfaces with low friction, delivering instant, precise action. The G-Turn function positions the electric Geländewagen as a demonstrator of advanced in-city maneuverability and off-road adaptability, combining nimble handling with the rugged silhouette typical of the G-Class.

Details about the powertrain for the forthcoming electric G-Class remain in development. Manufacturers at Carbuzz note that the prototype relies on four independent electric motors, each driving a wheel. The vehicle is planned to feature a high-energy-density traction battery to support extended range and strong performance. The testing ground chosen for the electric SUV prototypes was the Schöckl Mountain near Graz, where engineers and testers cycled the prototype up and down the mountain more than 300 times to evaluate traction, stability, and control under varying conditions.

The electric G-Class has previously been recognized in Europe, including a history tied to notable automotive awards and competitions. The model’s evolving capabilities reflect Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to electrification while preserving the character and capability familiar to G-Class enthusiasts worldwide.
