The federal highway M-12 linking Moscow with Kazan is nearing full completion. This update comes from TASS, citing Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

Khusnullin explained that the project has advanced with a key milestone: the bridge over the Volga has been slid into place and connected. He noted that the work is being carried forward in collaboration with Avtodor, the construction company, and described the moment as a significant achievement. With the bridge in place, the M-12 corridor from Moscow to Kazan is effectively joined, and the remaining task is to finalize the asphalt surface along the route.

Officials project that the entire highway will be finished by December 20. In the interim, traffic from Moscow toward Arzamas is set to open on September 5, enabling smoother regional movement. Plans also call for the M-12 to extend further in 2024 toward Yekaterinburg and in 2025 toward Tyumen, broadening the express corridor beyond its initial endpoints.

The decision to construct the M-12 Vostok highway was taken by the Russian government in July 2020. The project spans about 810 kilometers and is designed to connect 17 major regional centers, facilitating freight movement outside densely populated residential zones and improving overall logistics efficiency in the region.

There has also been discussion about experimental monitoring on adjacent toll routes. In related updates, authorities have conveyed that drivers will encounter new safety signage on select high-speed segments, aimed at encouraging safer following distances and reducing risk on fast lanes.
