The Lada Izhevsk plant, a key facility within the AvtoVAZ group, has begun the pilot run of Lada Largus station wagons. This milestone, confirmed by AvtoVAZ’s press service, marks an important step in expanding the model’s production footprint and testing the factory’s readiness to scale output for a new generation of vehicles.

Alongside the start of passenger van assembly last week, production has also moved into the test phase for the passenger variants of the Largus. AvtoVAZ explained that the objective is to produce roughly 80 cars in total by May 2024, a controlled pilot intended to validate all the processes across the complete production cycle. This approach aims to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency before any broader ramp-up in serial output.

Earlier in the year, in mid-August 2023, AvtoVAZ announced the termination of Lada Largus production in Tolyatti. With autumn arriving, the company began transferring equipment to the Izhevsk site, where the plan is to bring the model into full production in 2024. The move also aligns with broader strategic aims to boost Vesta production at the primary Tolyatti plant, optimizing overall factory utilization and capacity across the group.

According to AvtoVAZ president Maxim Sokolov, relocating Largus operations to Izhevsk and initiating production there will require approximately 2 billion rubles. The financial plan reflects the investments needed to modernize facilities, adapt line configurations for wagon variants, and ensure the seamless integration of new workflows within the existing manufacturing ecosystem.

Previously disclosed remarks linked Lada Aura to a comparison with the Toyota Camry, illustrating AvtoVAZ’s intent to position its lineup by emphasizing competitive benchmarks and contemporary design language. This commentary helps frame the Largus development within a broader narrative about product differentiation, quality standards, and evolving consumer expectations in the regional market.
