An 85-year-old woman in Krasnoyarsk died after her clothing became caught in the doors of a number 60 passenger bus, and the driver began moving without realizing the loading had not been completed, according to the regional investigative committee’s press service.
In the incident, which occurred on the morning of January 11, 2023, the elderly woman attempted to board the bus at the Vostochny bus station on Glinka Street while the vehicle was stopping to pick up passengers. The authorized spokesman stated that the driver, a 63-year-old, closed the doors only after ensuring that boarding was finished, and then the bus pulled away without detecting that someone remained in the doorway.
As the bus commenced moving, the woman became entangled and was struck by the vehicle, resulting in her death under the wheels. An investigation is ongoing to determine the precise sequence of events and any contributing factors related to the boarding process and the bus operator’s actions.
Earlier reports indicated a separate traffic incident near Irkutsk that left six people injured in a collision involving two cars. The regional authorities are reviewing all related incidents to understand safety failures and to prevent future tragedies across public transportation networks in the region.
The case is being handled by the regional main department of the Investigative Committee, which will pursue all necessary forensic and procedural steps to establish accountability and to provide clarity for relatives and the traveling public. Inquiries continue to determine whether any maintenance, training, or system-wide safety measures require reinforcement in Krasnoyarsk and nearby areas. At this stage, officials emphasize the importance of strict adherence to boarding procedures and vigilant monitoring of doors to avoid similar incidents in the future. Attributing responsibility and implementing safety improvements will be guided by the forthcoming findings of investigators and the transport oversight authorities.
