The KamAZ automobile plant in Russia has unveiled the first K5 truck in a new version engineered to operate without reliance on component supply from hostile nations. This update was announced by the enterprise’s press service.
The primary tractor model KamAZ-54901 was placed into the production line in a continuous flow. The updated K5 version includes a range of improvements. Enhancements were made to the cooling system, the vehicle information system, the electrical equipment, cabin suspension, and sound insulation. In addition, key drivetrain and chassis components were upgraded, including the automatic transmission, drive axle, and the pneumatic system.
As part of the production plan, 272 units of the new generation KamAZ-54901 K5 trucks are slated for February output, with more than 70 of these assembled using local components within Russia and allied nations. This shift aligns with broader efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce exposure to international supply chain disruptions.
Earlier reports noted that the Russian investment company AFK Sistema has begun negotiations regarding the potential acquisition of Volkswagen’s Kaluga factory, signaling strategic moves in the Russian automotive sector.
