Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a subsidy of 677 million rubles for KamAZ to support the launch of a new dump truck model featuring a K5 cabin, which is based on a Daimler-design cabin. The automaker faced challenges in assembling these machines, and the subsidy was confirmed by Kommersant. The plan was for KamAZ to produce 300 of these dump trucks by the end of 2022, but the production timeline was pushed back to 2023. Despite the delay, funds will be disbursed because the postponement largely stemmed from sanctions that disrupted the supplier base and deprived KamAZ of many foreign components needed for assembly. The company has since managed to assemble approximately 100 KamAZ dump trucks with the K5 cabin, and it is reported that all imported components required for the assembly will be replaced with domestic or alternative suppliers. This move aligns with broader efforts to localize production and mitigate external risk factors in the wake of sanctions. Previously, KamAZ announced that designers at the Scientific and Technical Center for PJSC KamAZ had developed an unmanned dump truck, the KamAZ-6559 Jupiter 30, intended for quarry operations, highlighting the ongoing diversification of KamAZ’s product line and automation initiatives.
