Iran Khodro Introduces Reera Crossover and Updates on Regional Auto Projects

An Iranian automotive producer, Iran Khodro (IKCO), has kicked off the production of the new Reera crossover at its Tehran facility, according to industry reports. The move marks IKCO’s latest step in expanding its lineup with compact crossover options for domestic and regional markets. The rollout aligns with IKCO’s ongoing strategy to refresh its product family and leverage local manufacturing capabilities to meet growing demand in Iran and nearby regions.

The new Reera measures 4334 mm in length and sits on a platform closely related to the Peugeot 2008 design. Under the hood, the crossover is equipped with a 1.7-liter gasoline engine delivering around 160 horsepower and paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The drive is front-wheel only, which positions the Reera as a versatile urban crossover suitable for daily commuting and family use. In terms of comfort and safety, buyers can expect heated front seats, four airbags, an engine start button, a stabilization system, a wireless smartphone charger, and a comprehensive all-round display system among other features.

At this stage, trial builds of the Reera are exiting the assembly line as part of a broader ramp‑up. Mass production was slated to begin in 2024, reflecting IKCO’s plan to boost output to meet domestic demand and support export potential within the region.

In other regional developments, BYD has announced plans to bring the Sea Lion 07 crossover to markets in the near term, with a design direction led by Wolfgang Egger, the former Audi designer who now serves as BYD’s chief designer. This collaboration signals BYD’s intent to broaden its crossover offerings and capitalize on its growing footprint in Asia and beyond.

Additionally, industry observers noted that GAC Motors is preparing to introduce a new large minivan into the Russian market, highlighting ongoing cross-border product introductions across Asia and Europe. These moves collectively illustrate how regional manufacturers are expanding their portfolios to appeal to diverse buyers seeking practical SUVs and family-friendly vans.
