A scientist from Zelenograd has introduced a device aimed at dramatically cutting accidents at pedestrian crossings. The invention has already secured a patent from the Russian Federation, signaling official recognition of its potential impact on road safety.
The technology is more straightforward and effective than earlier counterparts. A single antenna mounted at a crosswalk transmits a signal to the vehicle’s onboard systems. The device comprises a radio signal receiver, a processing unit, and a signaling component all housed together in one compact unit.
As a vehicle nears a zebra crossing within braking distance, the driver is alerted by a warning. The message indicates that the crossing is nearby, prompting the driver to reduce speed and be prepared to stop for pedestrians.
In dense urban routing, drivers pass through numerous crossings each day. The more frequently a warning sound is heard, the more familiar it becomes. Repeated exposure can lead some drivers to pay less immediate attention to the signal, which underscores the importance of designing alerts that remain effective over time.
