In Indianapolis, local youths watched an unusual scene unfold on a frozen canal: a Chevrolet sedan gliding across the ice. The spectacle was enough to prompt a moment of disbelief before tragedy settled in. The car plunged through the thin surface and began to sink, drawing bystanders into a quick, tense moment of concern. When rescuers arrived, they found a 33-year-old woman behind the wheel, described by witnesses as intoxicated and with a vivid imagination shaping the narrative of what had happened.
The driver claimed a GPS device had steered her toward the canal. She reportedly drove off the embankment, cutting through a nearby park, onto the ice, and continued forward until she reached a dead end, after which the vehicle broke through the ice. Bystanders nearby managed to pull her from the car before it sank completely. She was arrested at the scene, with bail set soon afterward.
