The head of the insurers association, Igor Yurgens, has announced his resignation from all three leadership roles he holds.

In a message quoted by korins.ru, he stated that this year would mark the end of his current term as president of the ARIA and that he would not seek another term. He added that because the position carries a transversal mandate, with responsibilities spanning two additional unions, the PCA and the RSZ, he intends to step down from his duties in those groups as well.

Yurgens reflected on more than twelve years of involvement in the insurance market, noting notable progress achieved during this period. Among the key accomplishments he highlighted was the effort to harmonize the interests of large, medium, and small companies under one self-regulatory framework, providing a unified voice for the sector.

Guiding the market through challenging times has been part of the task, and the OSAGO segment received particular attention. The leadership worked toward reforms that aimed to make compensation fairer while keeping costs reasonable and ensuring that customers felt better served by the process.

Another major focus for the insurance union was the development of modern digital services and nationwide IT tools. The push toward digitalization was framed as an essential step for improving service delivery, efficiency, and transparency across the market.

As he looks ahead, Yurgens said his forthcoming efforts would concentrate on advancing ESG initiatives, alongside several other initiatives that would be announced in due course. His departure will trigger a formal transition process that involves organizational steps and formal approvals at upcoming general meetings of the ARIA, RAMI, and the related unions, all slated to occur before year-end.

Industry insiders identified Evgeny Ufimtsev as the leading candidate to assume the role of head for RAMI and ARIA. Ufimtsev currently serves as vice president of ARIA and holds the position of executive director at the Russian Union of Motor Insurers, according to multiple industry sources cited by TASS.

Historically, Jürgens has chaired ARIA during two separate periods, first from 1998 to 2002 and then from 2013 onward, underscoring a long tenure in shaping the sector’s governance and strategy.
