How are drivers selected?

In practice, anyone can aim to become a driver. The essential prerequisites are a valid driver’s license and practical driving experience. The final decision typically rests with the military recruitment office, guided by current staffing needs.

There are scenarios where an individual can begin as an army driver without holding a driver’s license. At a training school, driving skills are taught, and service can continue with on the job training. Upon completing service, a dedicated document confirms the driver training has been completed. Driver selection criteria

Selection rests on two pillars: professional readiness and medical fitness.

  • The medical assessment is carried out by the Military Medical Commission, which conducts a health evaluation.
  • The professional screening reviews documentation related to education and prior driving experience with vehicles.

To pass the medical examination for a driver specialty, a conscript must meet specific requirements:

  • height at least 155 cm
  • adequate hearing, including the ability to hear a whisper
  • vision sufficient to distinguish color differences

To become a driver, a category not lower than B-3 is required. This designation is given if there are minor health concerns such as allergies or dental issues.

Duties of a Driver in the RF Forces

A military driver assumes several responsibilities:

  • monitoring the condition of the assigned vehicle
  • tracking fuel usage and the levels of technical fluids
  • preparing daily fuel and fluid consumption reports
  • ensuring the availability and condition of tools and spare parts
  • inspecting the fire extinguisher and the first aid kit

Before leaving the depot, it is essential to verify that the vehicle is ready for operation. Particular emphasis is placed on the braking and steering systems, the operation of windshield wipers, lighting equipment, and the condition of rear view mirrors.

According to the charter, a driver is not permitted to hand control of the vehicle to others. While operating a vehicle, eating, drinking, or smoking is prohibited.

Which riding categories are most in demand in the military?

Category B and Category C are the most sought after. Category B primarily covers passenger cars, while Category C unlocks driving of heavier equipment, including armored passenger vehicles. In the event of a breakdown or accident, the driver bears responsibility for vehicle repair and safe restoration to serviceable condition.
