In total, 131 new cars were introduced to the world in 2022, not counting updates, facelifts, or concept models. The most striking fact is that 47% of these new products came from Chinese car manufacturers, while Russian brands accounted for about 1% of the new introductions.
China produced, announced, and brought to production 62 fresh models, averaging roughly five new cars each month. SAIC led the Chinese manufacturers with ten new models, followed by Geely with eight and Great Wall with six premieres.
On the global stage, the Toyota group claimed the top position with 11 new models, including four SUVs, three sedans, three minivans, and one city car. In 2021, the company also released 11 new products, maintaining a steady pace relative to the year prior.
Likewise, General Motors rolled out 10 new products under Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC, placing the American and Chinese groups in a close second in the overall ranking.
Third place is shared with Geely and Honda, each introducing eight new cars. Honda showcased new generations of the Accord, CR-V, and Pilot as part of its premieres.
Stellar and Great Wall share fourth place, with Stellantis presenting a lineup that included Alfa Romeo Tonale, Citroën C4 X, Fiat Fastback, Jeep Avenger, Maserati Grecale, and Peugeot 408. Volkswagen also stood with six new products in this tier.
Following them, BMW and Mercedes-Benz each contributed four new entries, while Suzuki, Ford, and Hyundai tied with three new introductions apiece.
