Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. sent a formal letter to Zhejiang Geely Automobile Co., Ltd. and Geely Automobile Ltd., Co.Group, alleging similarities between Yellow brand products and Geely concept cars as well as Changan stock models. Geely responded in detail, carefully explaining each line of the draft and offering context for the concerns raised.
The discussion traces back to February 23 when Geely unveiled its Galaxy prototype. As a coupe, the Galaxy presents a low, wide stance that emphasizes aerodynamics and street presence. For electric propulsion, the low drag coefficient plays a critical role, with the Galaxy achieving a measured 0.19 drag coefficient, contributing to energy efficiency and extending driving range.
The vehicle’s front end adopts Geely’s recognizable styling language, yet it is reimagined with photovoltaic-inspired design elements. The headlights are sculpted into a distinctive form, and an abundance of LEDs creates a bright, modern face for the car. Subtle yet advanced technology is tucked within the design, including a high-definition camera and radar discreetly integrated amid the aesthetic features.
Along the sides, the design emphasizes the signature coupe silhouette. The Galaxy concept continues the tradition of hidden door handles and nearly invisible side cameras, which maintain a clean, uninterrupted line along the profile while preserving visibility and safety features.
Inside, the cabin showcases more than the familiar large central LCD screen. In addition, the left and right door panels and the rear seating area feature screens, collectively forming what Geely calls the ring screen of the Galaxy. These displays are interconnected, enabling content to be shared or seamlessly moved from one monitor to another, enhancing passenger engagement and information flow.
Geely asserts that the appearance of resemblance is coincidental and emphasizes that no intention existed to appropriate or imitate another company’s designs. The company positions the Galaxy as part of a broader exploration of futuristic interior and exterior design language, while maintaining respect for existing engineering work and brand identities.
In explaining the draft line-by-line, Geely details the design cues, engineering choices, and technological features that distinguish the Galaxy from existing models, underscoring a commitment to innovation, safety, and user-centric experiences. The discussion also underscores the importance of clear communication in balancing creative exploration with competitive integrity in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
