A great comparison of the FAW Bestune T77 and GAC GS5 front-wheel drive crossovers, both priced above two million rubles, summarized here.
What lies beneath? Design and protection rules? Do they resist rust?
The T77’s undercarriage is shielded by a plastic cover. The floor clearance to the ground sits at 160 mm, and it drops further with the optional metal guard. The bottom remains mostly flat with few protrusions. The anti-corrosion coating is substantial, though some bare spots exist where touch-up work could help. Radiator inlets are not oversized, and there is no mandatory need for a front mesh guard.
The hood is held open by a simple prop, with a continuous rubber seal around the edge to help keep the engine bay clean for longer.
The GS5 doors maintain a cleaner engine bay longer than the T77 due to better sealing on the sides. The engine bay, however, tends to accumulate grime more quickly because there are no side seals. On the bright side, there are generous pneumatic supports that keep the hood open with ease.
Protection for the crankcase is minimal on the GS5, as there is no plastic skid plate. Still, a ground clearance of 190 mm provides some margin for light off-road use when the road is adequate.
The anti-corrosion coating on the GS5 is also uneven, suggesting the need for additional protection work. It is a good idea to install a bumper mesh if the dealer did not supply one, because the bumper slots are quite large.
