In Makhachkala, officers from the local patrol and police service halted a Mercedes-Benz SUV for a routine check and, during the inspection, uncovered a TT pistol tucked away with a passenger, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan as reported on their Telegram channel.
The firearm, a TT pistol, was fully loaded with five rounds when seized. It was traced to a 36-year-old passenger from Dagestan who was immediately taken into custody by law enforcement officials. The weapon was subsequently sent for forensic examination, and experts confirmed that it is a combat-ready firearm capable of firing and threatening public safety.
The detainee claimed that the gun had been in his possession for some time and had come from his late grandfather, who had reportedly kept it hidden since 1999 amid the ongoing conflicts in the republic. He asserted that he planned to surrender the weapon to police on his own initiative at the earliest opportunity, but circumstances prevented him from doing so before his arrest. Authorities are now verifying the truth of his statement as part of their ongoing investigation.
Earlier reports noted a separate incident in Dagestan: bricks falling from a passing truck reportedly caused a fatal injury to the driver of another vehicle, underscoring ongoing concerns about road safety and public hazards in the region.
