Estonia set a deadline for owners of vehicles bearing Russian license plates to re-register their cars by March 13, a move reported by RIA News. Those who miss the deadline face fines that can reach up to 400 euros, authorities warned. In Estonia’s recent records, there were 83 Russian-flagged vehicles registered locally last year, and an additional 13 such vehicles were added at the start of this year.
Earlier updates noted that vehicles with Russian plates must be removed from Finland by Saturday, March 16. Lithuanian customs officials stated on March 2 that cars bearing Russian plates must depart Lithuania by March 11; otherwise, they risk confiscation. On March 7, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated Moscow would respond if Lithuania proceeds with confiscations. Russian diplomats also urged Russian citizens to use the remaining days to minimize risks to their property.
Previously, Estonia had already imposed a ban on entry for vehicles with Russian license plates, a policy that remained in force and was reinforced through subsequent measures.
