In July 2023, Russia’s new-vehicle purchases reached 272.6 billion rubles, marking a 3.1-fold rise from July 2022 and a record high over the past two years. This figure comes from the publication Open Auto in collaboration with the analytical firm Avtostat, as reported by TASS.
The July 2023 findings show that Russians spent 272.6 billion rubles on buying new cars, the strongest monthly total since July 2021. The level exceeded June 2023 by 16.7 percent, when the market totaled 233.6 billion rubles, and it was three times higher than July 2022, which stood at 87.1 billion rubles.
According to data from the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the European Business Association (AEB) in Russia, the market for new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 63 percent in July 2023 compared with the same month in 2022. During July, sales reached 52,832 units across the country.
In the national market leadership, the Lada brand held a substantial position with 27.4 thousand units, representing a 28.6 percent market share. Close behind, Chery sold 10.7 thousand new cars in July, followed by Geely with 8.8 thousand vehicles, placing these brands firmly among the top sellers for the month.
Industry observers have pointed to rising parts costs as a contributing factor to shifting price dynamics within the Russian auto sector, signaling continued adjustments for buyers and manufacturers alike.
