In Russia, the average price of a used Chinese car by mileage has risen significantly since the start of 2021, reaching about 1.6 million rubles according to Avto.ru analysts who studied current ads for sale.
During the winter and spring of 2022, prices for used Chinese cars climbed sharply. Over the last year, the weighted average price of these cars increased by 62%. For new Chinese cars, prices have doubled since January 2021, with the current average at around 3.2 million rubles.
Analysts attribute the rise in average cost to a growing share of relatively new and more expensive models entering the market. Specifically, within the used Chinese car segment, the portion of vehicles in the middle price range of 1.5 to 3 million rubles expanded from 13% to 39% over the year, while models under 500,000 rubles shrank to about a third of their previous share and now represent roughly 27% of total market volume.
Observers note that the fleet of mileage-bearing cars from China has become younger, with average mileage dropping from 100–120 thousand kilometers to 75–80 thousand kilometers over two years. In the price band of 1.5–3 million rubles, new cars now make up about three-quarters of listings, and nearly half of all offerings fall in the 3–5 million ruble range. At the same time, there are almost no vehicles priced below 1.5 million rubles.
