A criminal case has been opened after a driver went to a police station in the Krasnoyarsk region and assaulted a duty officer. The incident was reported to the GSU SK for the Krasnoyarsk region and the Republic of Khakassia.
Investigators say that on the night of March 16, in the village of Kuragino, a man who appeared to be intoxicated and did not possess a driver’s license approached the porch of the Kuraginsky building of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The duty officer approached to ask the purpose of the visit, but the individual stepped out of his vehicle and launched an attack on the police officer.
The intoxicated man was detained and identified as a 22-year-old resident of the neighborhood. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which covers the use of violence against a law enforcement officer performing official duties. In a separate, unrelated incident, reports note that two people were killed in a car fire following a crash near St. Petersburg. While not connected to the Kuragino event, authorities say the accident is under investigation and details are being assessed by local prosecutors and emergency services.
