During covert patrols, inspectors may document violations that are not always captured by cameras or video recordings, and this can occur in specific locations. Hidden checks are more common on holidays when traffic from large cities swells and roadways become busier than usual.

During these covert patrols, the violations that are typically recorded include:

  • dangerous driving and crossing solid lines in the same direction;
  • leaving the oncoming lane;
  • infractions at intersections and pedestrian crossings;
  • using a smartphone while driving.

Inspectors may document the violation using a video camera, a video recorder, or a standard smartphone mounted on a windshield mount. The captured information is then relayed to the nearest traffic police station. The offender’s vehicle is stopped and a formal protocol is prepared. If any dispute arises, the driver will receive a notice of the violation.

Hidden traffic police units can be identified by two straightforward indicators. First, the personnel must resemble police officers in appearance. Second, the vehicles are marked for the National Traffic Inspectorate and display the correct license plates.
