Car damage claim after falling store ornament in St. Petersburg sparks court case
A resident of St. Petersburg sought 169,000 rubles in compensation from Agrotorg for damage to his vehicle caused by an ornament that detached from a Pyaterochka store. This information was released through the Telegram channel of the city courts’ joint press service, signaling the official legal proceeding tied to the incident.
The event occurred in July 2022 when the owner parked his Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in front of a Pyaterochka and went inside. Moments later, a loud crash was heard. The investigation concluded that a magazine cover, driven by strong winds, detached from the building and struck the car, damaging the grille and scratching the bumper. The repair bill to restore the vehicle reached 154,200 rubles. The defendant did not settle the claim during the proceedings, while a company representative challenged the claim by noting that the inquiry was conducted without the defendant present and did not present evidence to counter the police findings. Ultimately, the court ordered Agrotorg to pay 169,900 rubles, which included the court fee and legal aid costs.
In a separate, older report from Irkutsk, a Toyota owner reportedly breached a car service barrier and proceeded into the facility, an incident noted in earlier summaries of similar urban mishaps.
