When selecting a cable, it is wise to follow traffic regulations and practical safety guidelines. A typical setup recommends a length of four to six meters, with two or more red-white flags measuring 20 by 20 centimeters to mark the line and increase visibility for oncoming traffic.
Nylon tow ropes are favored by many professionals for their combination of strength, lightness, and resistance to corrosion. They are easy to store and handle, and their bright color helps locate the line quickly in low visibility—an important factor in preventing mishaps during an emergency pull.
A critical rule of thumb is that the maximum breaking load of the rope should be at least twice the mass of the towed vehicle. This safety buffer helps absorb dynamic forces during the pull and reduces the risk of rope failure or damage to the vehicle.
