Chinese Cars Take the Lead in the Russian Market
In a historic shift for the automotive industry, vehicles manufactured in China have emerged as the top sellers in Russia. During a recent week, Chinese-brand passenger cars accounted for a substantial share of the market, reflecting a notable trend in consumer preferences for value, features, and modern design.
Over the considered period, Russians purchased 3,742 new passenger cars from Chinese brands, representing 34.8 percent of all passenger car sales. This marks a significant milestone in the domestic automotive landscape, highlighting how Chinese manufacturers have intensified their presence among Russian buyers and challenged established brands.
Meanwhile, domestic brands sold 3,715 units in the same timeframe, with AVTOVAZ products dominating the majority of those purchases at 3,489 units. The juxtaposition underscores a competitive market where both international and local players vie for consumer attention and loyalty.
From the lineup of Chinese brands, Chery led the charge with 1,439 units, followed by Geely with 997 units and Haval with 705 units. In a broader context of automotive choice, the Korean brand Kia also made a strong showing, contributing 778 units to the top tier of sellers.
