CHEVROLET Cobalt, 1.5 (105 HP), A6

The Chevrolet Cobalt’s engine began to idle with noise. A closer look at the exhaust system was needed. In cars subjected to constant mechanical stress, the component most prone to failure is often the thermal compensator in the intermediate pipe of the muffler, the flexible section sometimes called the wave. This is exactly what was found. Yet reaching 147 thousand kilometers on the clock is a solid milestone for any vehicle of this type.
Repair work required specialized service. A qualified technician was brought in to handle the task with the proper tools and procedures.
The intermediate pipe has lasting potential, so only the corrugated segment needed replacement. The old flexible piece was removed with a grinder, and a fresh one was welded in place without taking the exhaust components out of the car. This careful approach preserves the relative alignment of the other parts and helps avoid loosening fasteners later on. Ripping apart the exhaust system can create more problems than it solves, so the on-car replacement method was chosen as the safest option.
The entire operation took about ten minutes. The bill amounted to roughly 3,500 rubles for the new component and the repair service.
